FISHING REPORT MAUMEE RIVER 5/03/10

AGAIN FISHING WAS GOOD. A FEW LIMITS OF WALLEYES WERE CAUGHT. WHITE BASS FISHING IS PICKING UP EVERY DAY. BOTH THE WALLEYE JACKS AND WHITE BASS ARE RUNNING GOOD SIZE. THE CROWDS ARE LIGHT. ALL ACCESS SITES ARE PRODUCING FAIR TO GOOD CATCHES. YOU CAN WADE OVER TO BLUEGRASS ISLAND, BUT REMEMBER THE RIVER DID RISE EIGHT INCHES SINCE YESTERDAY MORNING. IF IT RISES MUCH MORE YOU MAY HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING BACK OR MAY BE STRANDED ON THE ISLAND.STARTING MAY 1st THE SPECIAL REGULATIONS FOR THE MAUMEE RIVER ARE OFF. NO MORE SUNRISE TO SUNSET. THE DAILY WALLEYE LIMIT IS NOW SIX PER DAY. AND YOU CAN START USING CRANK BAITS OR SPINNERS, LURES WITH TREBLES HOOK OR LARGER THEN THE HALF A INCH GAP. ALSO SMALLMOUTH BASS AND LARGEMOUTH BASS ARE OUT OF SEASON AND MUST BE RELEASED UNHARMED STARTING TODAY. THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THESE BASS ARE FROM MAY FIRST THRU THE LAST FRIDAY IN JUNE. THE OHIO D.N.R. HAS NOT NOTIFIED US OF ANY RULE CHANGES THAT THEY SAID MIGHT HAPPEN ON MAY 1st. SO ALL REGULATIONS ARE THE SAME EXCEPT THE DROPPING OF THE SPECIAL WALLEYE REGULATIONS I MENTIONED EARLIER. GOOD LUCK FISHING TODAY !

RAINBOW TROUT, A FEW SMALL BROWNS AND A FEW STEELHEADS ARE BEING CAUGHT AT COLD CREEK IN SANDUSKY. MINI FOO JIGS WITH WAX WORMS OR SMALL SHINERS. FLOATING SMALL SPAWN BAGS WILL ALSO WORK.
