Make a wetland.....for free!

Hey everyone....If you happen to own land or know someone that owns land, that is in a floodplain and could be turned into a wetland you should think about putting in for a wetland construction/design project. After being in classes learning about all the benefits of these programs for private landowners, making wetland restoration free of costs and the benefits of having a wetland on your property is so substantial to our fragmented environment! Please check out this weblink learn about the Wetland Reserve Program here in Ohio, and talk to some of those farmers out there and maybe a wetland could be in place of their wet crop field. I know some basics of the programs in Ohio for designing programs to turn your pasture field or crop fields back into its natural state and get paid per acre or project for the restoration you have done!

good idea. turn that crop land along the rivers back to nature and the animals will return and flourish. around us and the blanchard river it would be most of the county though.

well unless people like u put the word out to people with land that has been filled in or covered over to keep it from being wet so they can plant on it, they may never know that they could turn it back into a wetland and allow it to be a natural area, and not even have to pay for it. Some farmers appreciate wildlife and see the increase in wildlife habitat way better than trying to work up an old field, drainage area and plant in it if it floods out or washes away more than it is worth the work. I think this is a great idea, if you've ever been to Glacier Ridge Metropark outside of Dublin you've seen what this is all about. It's amazing the diversity these habitats can draw... don't get that from a washed out bean field.

lol....I work for the metroparks, so yes I have seen Glacier Ridge. Currently we are intalling some large wetlands at Battelle Darby Creek Metro parks with program money, and wow you are exactly right, if you take time to notice how much is actually going on at some of these scarce wetlands you would want to save or make a new one at any chance you had!
