White Bass in Sandusky River
Jonny,
Thought I would check with you and other members. I useto fish for White Bass in the 60's in Fremont and at that time the river ran in different direction than now,, flood control project changed alot of it.
At those times we use to cast doll flies , white or yellow to haul them in.
I was thinking of giving the White Bass a try this year and wondered now what is the most used lures and colors for the white Bass run.
Since there are restrictions on lures durning the walleye time how do they handle the white bass fisherman ?
Just thought I'd run it by you.
Thanks all,
JimG

Re: White Bass in Sandusky River
The whitebass on an average year will show up around the 15th of April
As most people will throw jigs and twisters with the one hook rule, we use road runners or bettle spins. The flash will really get the fish to bite
After may 1st comes around, if the water has any clarity at all a 1/8oz. rooster tail tandem rigged with a 1/16oz. jig is the best rig out there. If it's dirty and a high flow I like two 1/8oz. jigs.
Once the water gets up to 50 constantly, I think a few males will show up as they spawn in the high 50's. The fish should be around until the end of May, possibly later. Peak around 10th or 15th.
It is always a fun time down there, I go almost daily. It can be crowded at times but you can catch fish throughout the whole river.
Look below riffles for the best spots... You can see these good when the water gets REALLY low
Give me a shout down there
They taste ok deep fried
