Outdoors fav baits and techniques

Post by saugeye1 Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:05 pm

I'll get it started. fav bluegill in spring is rebel crickhopper twitched on top, man do those gills pop it. Crappie is either roadrunner or 1 1/2" tube under weighted cigar float. Just curious to see anyones eles tech.

ill post a pic when i find them... but i like to use 1/32-1/16 oz hair jigs in a bluegill or shad pattern fished about 3' under a small cork float with a flat top...

the flat top float makes a "popping" sound on the surface drawing in those bruiser gills and crappie before the spawn in early spring... and a tempted LM or SM will take a hair fly when available Wink

catching gills is almost to easy in the spring as long as you have some maggots, small weighted bobber, 32sec jig head and a mr twister. reel in slow, work it a little. I could catch blue gills all day if they are in the area.....Crappie will also hit it.......For crappie I love the roadrunner/crappie thunder in white and shartreuse....If you can get minnows I usually throw the head of a minnow on the hook...If not minnows maggots work great to....I have also had perch nail those set ups

Lightweight in-line spinners or 2" chartruse twistertail. Let it fall for about 3 seconds and pull it just fast enough to keep the blade/tail spinning.
For docks and cover I like to use an ice jig and a couple spikes.

Good fishin"
