Reaction Strike
We often get a misconception that working our baits slow in cold water is our best chance to catch fish. This can be true on some occasions. However, don't ever rule out the reaction strike of a fast moving bait. These two bass below were caught by my partner and I a couple weeks ago in 39 degree water on lipless crankbaits.
Just thought I would throw that tip out in-case someone is having a hard time getting bites in the Spring.

Nice largemouth Danerdoo. Especially from a creek. Most have some deep pockets and slack water for those largemouth to thrive.

Thanks, we were catching mostly small rock bass and bluegill, and then I caught that in one of the deeper holes, I was pretty surprised! And Saugeye1, French creek runs through avon, sheffeild and Lorain I think. I don't actually live in Ohio, my dad does, but I go every summer.

Re: Reaction Strike
I've been throwing he lipless a lot this season, but cant get a strike. How are you working the bait? I've been mainly yo yoing the bait and sometimes working it on the bottom, but haven't had any luck.
You have to play around with the retrieve to find what they like the best. Sometimes a steady retrieve gets them going. Other times it might be burning it in. Keys are sometimes ticking cover such as vegetation, rocks, or wood. The particular day I was burning it, and pausing it for a half second during the retrieves. Usually after the pause is when they would hit it. I mainly fished it this way due to the lack of cover in the area. I didn't have anything to tick it off of. So the pause compensated for that.
Good luck, and tight lines
