aren't you guys afraid of getting a bad one? i hear they can really make you sick. i suppose there is a book of identification on these, but aren't you ever leary?

Nope there are 3 main types you find when looking

Grey sponge, the small short stemed ones in Jims pic
and yellow sponge, bigger and better lol, smililar to grey
and lastly "dog peckers" lol thats what we call em, they are the long stemed ones in the pic and can also be called blacks

We call those peckerheads.

Hey bejig there are some pretty nasty stools out there, false morels, we've always gone by whether tehy're hollow or not. Hollow is GOOD! If they look like a morel but they're fleshy all the way through and aren't pitted like a coral reef on the head they're probably the bad guys.
