Re: More Ice Candy: Gills
Alright you guys won't believe this but those fish were caught fishing a crack about 4 miles out because we forgot the drill when we got out there so we figured we'd fish
It was good enough thickness though, we used this method and finally found the safe ice:
Using a spud bar,
I pull it completely behind my back and swing it forward, launching it 50+ feet out onto the ice. Then while its in the air i start sprinting at it.
When it hits i count the time it takes me to grab it and raise it in the air like the Tuskan raiders did in the old star wars movie.
Then subtract the number of seconds from the current day in the month.. that should give you a somewhat ballpark idea of the ice thickness in inches.
that's my method, I'm not sure if its for you.
Anyways after got to the crack we started trolling some reef runners along the crack for about 40yds until we started falling through the ice
Lost a quad and my buddy but hell yea it was worth it!!1

Re: More Ice Candy: Gills
Do you have any numbers on that crack ? Also what speed was you trolling at ? Color and size would also help on the reef runners , this info would be appreciated . When checking the ice thickness what +/- percent in the calculation should I use being I'm more like spartacus then a Tuskan Raider ? I'm sorry about the quad and I'm not just saying that I mean it . Please post soon in case I have to get cleaned up to go to walmart to get some new lures and such .
