Kelly\'s Island & Gull Shoals

I got a chance to get away from Chicago with my 8 year old and have a fun Memorial Day weekend at Lake Erie.

We fished Sat - Mon. Sat & Mon were walleye days, and Sunday was a perch day. Weather was just about perfect with under 2's about 90% of the time, and pretty much sunny skies every day.

Guys at the Fisherman's Wharf pointed us in the right direction. We fished east of the monument and north of Kelly's on Saturday; then north of Kelly's and along west of side of gull shoals on Monday. Both walleye days started slow, but then ended quickly (with limits) when we found the fish. The perch day was pretty slow with almost no wind to give us a drift, high skies and a slow bite. I did get a chance to walleye fish for a bit when my son fell asleep was able to box a walleye then.

All the 'eyes come on harnesses fished from top to bottom. Speed was best around 1.3 to 1.8 over 32 to 50 fow.

The boy and I will be spending Memorial Day in Port Clinton again this year. Will you be at the shop this weekend? Someone's gonna have to tell me where the fish are! The reports I've been reading make it sound like it's pretty tough fishing.

That sounds good man, I'm sure I will be working! I will have to check hours but as long as it stays pretty calm this week the eyes are bound to turn on!

Great. We'll be up Friday night, and stopping by the shop. I found all my harnesses from last year in the garage....on the floor.....in a big ball. So, I'm gonna need to stock up again!

Let's hope the fishing turns on. Pressure is on this year - I've got a couple of buddies coming with, and the boy expects limits.

Hey Jonny - we just got home. We tried to make it over there, but got in late on Friday and were never around in the other evenings to make it to the shop. We did stop in Saturday morning and bought a ton of spoons and harnesses though.

We fished West Sister on Sat and around Kelley's on Sunday and Monday. Struggled everywhere we went. Got three on Satuday, seven on Sunday, and five yesterday. Pretty weak compared to last year.

I guess there's always next year!
