Lake Erie Ice Update

For those of you wanting to get out... Dad has made a report MUDDY EVERY WHERE
K.I. Ferry Lane-Open water-West of this a lot of ice few open water areas.
Mazuriks-One set of tracks of a 4 wheeler going out-Don't know distance-In cove 8in.
Catawaba-A dozen or so cars. 15 or so shanties-Not going out very far-Can be seen from launch-A guy from Youngstown reported 3in. ice where he was fishing around the bend to the north-Straight west of the launch the ice is said to be 12in! Muddy water-No fish caught.
Crane Creek-Lots of foot tracks going out-Fresh but didn't see any people-A man fell through yesterday-Have pics from wildlife area and big shove piles- Ice looked good for as far as the eye could see-Ice 3-4in.
Rte. 2 Marina-Muddy water-only 3in. of ice-slushy!
Sandusky Bay-4 wheeler tracks on east side of bridge. One shanty by whites landing

Catawaba: 12 or so guys out today. Ice is ranging from 12inches to 2inches. very dangerous!!! A man fell through on a 3 wheeler-No injuries and at about 2:00 they were goin out in a snowmobile and small boat to try and get it. They went out to the west 2.2 miles on GPS. There is a crack 1mile out the ice is 12inches this is where most are stopping. Last weekend some guys caught two fish. Water is still muddy... Yesterday 2 guys went 200yds of miller ferry no fish either. Air boats are breaking through off peble beach. ICE IS DANGEROUS no fish are being caught-Is it worth it???

Catawba: Mar 2nd 2008 No word on ice thickness
More guys fishing today about 15-20. Rumor has it 4 men were rescued. Guys were fishing anywhere from a 1/4mile to about 2miles out off Catawba. Off the cliffs beach there was a group of 5 guys siting within 20ft. of open water about 200yds off shore. Water is opening fast!. Also heard water is clearing and a few eyes are being caught NW of Catawba at least 2miles. It wont last much longer be safe out there. Good Luck to those who brave it!

Drove all around today-The north winds during the storm have blown in the ice. What was open water ranges from 1in. of ice to 12inches. Shove is everywhere and open water spots can also be seen. These pics are taken from lakeshore drive in port clinton
